The UGE is sorely in need of staffers to keep the space open during the day!

Looking for a way to get involved at the UGE but not sure where to start?
Looking for an excuse to hang out with sweet folks, read cool books, and sit on
comfy couches?

Look no forward! Become a staffer at the UGE!

Staffers keep the space open, help people check out books from the UGE library,
help people purchase things from the coop, and assist people in navigating
other resources the UGE offers. The UGE is open from 10am-4pm weekdays, and
staffers are expected to commit to at least 1 hour per week.

In order to become a staffer, you must sit through all workshops. If you cannot
make it on Monday, let us know, and we can meet with you another time to show
you the ropes! There will be food both days!

1) Logo Design
McGill’s Union for Gender Empowerment (the UGE) is looking to hire someone to design a logo for us!

Description: We are hiring someone to design a logo for the UGE to use on their promotional material, in their offices etc. The UGE is a student service at McGill University that provides resources, educational opportunities and a center for advocacy in a pro-woman and trans-positive environment, regardless of gender identity.

Task: Design logo in collaboration with the UGE collective.

Salary/Timeline: – The contract will go from April 4th to May 31st, 2011. We are budgeting $10 an hour for 10 hours of work, for a total of $100.

Requirements: Please send in samples of your work, a cover letter and a resume to unionforgenderempowerment@gmail.com by March 30th, 2011 at 5pm.

2) Workshop Development – Trans 101
Description: We are hiring one or two people to revamp our Trans 101 workshop, created several years ago by the Trans Health Network. In its current format, the Trans 101 workshop is an introductory level workshop which explores the difference between “sex” and “gender”, defines different identity terms and pronouns, and begins to discuss realities and oppressions faced by trans folks, as well at the privileges experienced by cis-folks.

Tasks: – Develop a new 1-2 hour Trans 101 workshop: incorporating elements of the old workshop, create new activities and discussions, to make the new workshop more interactive, comprehensive and exciting!

-Create a document with the new workshop activities and include a section of extra “units” to allow flexibility for groups with more or less familiarity with the material.

-Present the new revamped workshop to members of the UGE collective as well as community members to gather feedback

Requirements: -Experience in workshop development and facilitation

-Good understanding of trans and queer issues, as well as principles of anti-oppression

-Familiarity with the Union for Gender Empowerment, and with the current Trans 101 workshop, is an asset
Salary/timeline: – The contract will go from March 28th to May31st, 2011.

-The salary is $10/hour for a total of 50 hours, for a total of $500 for one person, or $250 for each person in the case where we hire two people (or you can split it however you see fit).

There will be food! Please let us know if you have requests/requirements/preferences as to what you can or cannot eat. For sure we will have vegan options.

We will be covering an intro to our space from a staffers perspective, including library check-out/check-in, co-op operations, discussion on the UGE as a safe(r) space, resource updating processes, zine photocopying, S.I.D. Project, phone message checking, and any thing else that is pertinent to staffing our space.

Some things have changed over the past year or two, so we would like to request previous staffers to attend this training as well.

Mandatory Trans 101 and Anti-Oppression 101 workshops will be held at a later date for new staffers. We’ll figure out a date for this at the end of the (re) training meeting. Both of these additional workshops together will take 2-3 hours (including food, also).
